Pastor Tony Montgomery, Sr.
Tony Montgomery, Sr., is a native of Hopkins, South Carolina. A second-generation preacher and pastor, he is the son of the late Reverend James T. Montgomery and the late Dorothy Young Montgomery. After graduating from high school, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and earned a degree in Business Administration, with a major emphasis in Commercial Real Estate. He was licensed and ordained to preach at Antioch Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and began pastoring in 1996. He is currently in his 30th year of pastoring. He is the pastor of Greater St. James Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. In December 2025, he completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training with the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He serves as the lead chaplain for the Jackson Fire Department in Jackson, MS, and as the 7th District Chaplain of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. A seasoned pastor, he is in his 30th year of pastoring. Rev. Montgomery is an avid reader and the author of two books, When You Lack the Faith You, which was published in 2005, and his most recent book, Honey, I Need an Advocate. He is the pastor of Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. He and his late wife, Attorney Monique Montgomery, were blessed with three children: Sarah, Dylan, and Tony II.
