Bringing emergency preparedness education, practical resources, and community partners together for older adults and family caregivers.

A Meaningful Day in Baltimore

Preparedness, Partnership, and Community

On Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Compassion by Design, Inc. hosted Legacy Forum LIVE: Emergency Preparedness — Preparing Today for Peace of Mind Tomorrow at the Enoch Pratt Free Library's Central Library in Baltimore, Maryland.

The event brought our commitment to caregiver education and community preparedness into an in-person setting, creating an opportunity for older adults, family caregivers, and community organizations to come together around an issue that affects every household: being prepared when an emergency happens.

Emergency preparedness is about more than gathering supplies. It is about understanding what to do, knowing where to turn for assistance, and recognizing the additional planning that may be needed when caring for an older adult or someone with health or mobility challenges.

Through education, conversation, and direct access to community resources, Legacy Forum LIVE brought those important discussions into the community.

A few moments from our November 4 emergency preparedness event in Baltimore.

Prepared Caregiver Corner™

Introducing "The First 72 Hours"

One of the highlights of Legacy Forum LIVE was the unveiling of Compassion by Design's first emergency preparedness video resource, "The First 72 Hours."

Presented through our Prepared Caregiver Corner™ initiative, the video focuses on the importance of preparing for the first three days following an emergency or disaster.

For older adults and family caregivers, those first 72 hours can involve important decisions about medications, communication, medical equipment, mobility, shelter, and access to essential supplies.

Why the First 72 Hours Matter

Preparing in advance can help families identify essential needs, establish emergency contacts, organize important information, and develop a plan that accounts for the specific needs of the people in their care.

The unveiling marked an important step in expanding the educational resources available through Prepared Caregiver Corner™ and the Golden Circle of Care Hub™.

Community Collaboration

Bringing Community Resources Together

Emergency preparedness is strengthened when individuals and families know the organizations and services available in their communities.

Legacy Forum LIVE created an opportunity to connect with organizations working in emergency management, public safety, healthcare, aging services, and community support.

The event program included remarks from the Baltimore City Fire Department, community partner introductions, and a resource fair where attendees could learn more about available services.

Continuing the Conversation

Preparedness Does Not End When the Event Ends

Our goal is not simply to host an event and move on to the next one. We want the information shared through Legacy Forum LIVE to remain useful long after the program concludes.

That is why Compassion by Design continues to develop practical tools, educational programming, and accessible resources for older adults and the people who care for them.

Through the Legacy Forum™ Series, Prepared Caregiver Corner™, and the Golden Circle of Care Hub™, we are building opportunities for families to learn, prepare, and connect throughout the year.
