About us

Our Mission: Compassion by Design is launching with a mission to improve the lives of seniors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals through education, advocacy, and compassionate support. From the start, we are committed to ensuring dignity, respect, and a high quality of life for aging adults through informed, empathetic care.

Our Vision: We envision a future where empathy is at the center of elder care—and where every caregiver feels seen, supported, and empowered.

Our Story: Compassion by Design was born from lived experience—not theory, not trend, but the reality of loving and caring for an aging parent when the system feels overwhelming, fragmented, and, at times, painfully impersonal. As the nonprofit arm of Purpose by Design, Meetings and Events, LLC, CBD was created in response to a deeply personal caregiving journey that revealed just how isolating and emotionally exhausting elder care can be for families and professionals alike.

Our founder witnessed firsthand the silent struggles caregivers face every day—the lack of clear guidance, the emotional toll of advocating for loved ones, and the absence of empathy within systems meant to protect and support aging adults. These experiences illuminated a critical truth: caregivers are often expected to give endlessly, with little support in return.

Compassion by Design exists to change that reality.

As we work toward our 501(c)(3) designation, we are intentionally building programs that restore dignity, empathy, and support to the caregiving experience. We are committed to empowering family caregivers, strengthening the professionals who serve our elders, and creating practical, compassionate solutions that honor aging as a shared human journey—not a burden carried alone.

What We Are Building

Compassion by Design is launching a suite of innovative programs and initiatives designed for both meaningful impact and long-term scalability, including:

  • Specialized caregiver education, training, and support programs

  • The Legacy Forum Series, launching in July 2026, featuring caregiver education, peer support, and the Prepared Caregiver Corner, a disaster preparedness and emergency planning initiative sponsored by AARP Community Challenge and AARP Maryland

  • The inaugural Golden Years Summit, launching in December 2027

  • Accessible digital tools, educational resources, and caregiver support materials

  • Advocacy, community engagement, and collaborative initiatives focused on advancing empathy-driven care and improving outcomes for older adults, caregivers, and the professionals who serve them

We also recognize the systemic pressures facing hospital and nursing home staff, many of whom are overworked and under-supported. Through partnerships and advocacy, we aim to foster more compassionate workplace cultures, improve patient outcomes, and promote a standard of care that honors the dignity and well-being of our aging population.
