About us
Our Mission: Compassion by Design is launching with a mission to improve the lives of seniors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals through education, advocacy, and compassionate support. From the start, we are committed to ensuring dignity, respect, and a high quality of life for aging adults through informed, empathetic care.
Our Vision: We envision a future where empathy is at the center of elder care—and where every caregiver feels seen, supported, and empowered.
Our Story: Compassion by Design was born from lived experience—not theory, not trend, but the reality of loving and caring for an aging parent when the system feels overwhelming, fragmented, and, at times, painfully impersonal. As the nonprofit arm of Purpose by Design, Meetings and Events, LLC, CBD was created in response to a deeply personal caregiving journey that revealed just how isolating and emotionally exhausting elder care can be for families and professionals alike.
Our founder witnessed firsthand the silent struggles caregivers face every day—the lack of clear guidance, the emotional toll of advocating for loved ones, and the absence of empathy within systems meant to protect and support aging adults. These experiences illuminated a critical truth: caregivers are often expected to give endlessly, with little support in return.
Compassion by Design exists to change that reality.
As we work toward our 501(c)(3) designation, we are intentionally building programs that restore dignity, empathy, and support to the caregiving experience. We are committed to empowering family caregivers, strengthening the professionals who serve our elders, and creating practical, compassionate solutions that honor aging as a shared human journey—not a burden carried alone.
What We Are Building
Through innovative programs, strategic partnerships, and community engagement, Compassion by Design is building sustainable initiatives that improve the caregiving experience while advancing compassionate care throughout Maryland and beyond.
Our signature initiatives include:
Specialized caregiver education, training, and support programs
The Legacy Forum Series - a monthly virtual educational and support series that brings together caregivers, older adults, healthcare professionals, family members, and community organizations for practical education, expert presentations, peer connection, and resource sharing. Each forum includes the Prepared Caregiver Corner, providing emergency preparedness and disaster planning education made possible through support from the 2026 AARP Community Challenge and AARP Maryland.
The Golden Years Summit — our signature educational conference launching in 2027, designed to unite caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates, policymakers, nonprofit leaders, and community partners to explore innovative solutions that improve aging and caregiving.
Caregiver Education and Training — evidence-informed workshops, webinars, and educational resources that help caregivers build confidence, strengthen practical skills, and navigate complex caregiving responsibilities.
Digital Resources and Support Tools — accessible online guides, planning resources, educational materials, and practical tools designed to help caregivers make informed decisions throughout every stage of the caregiving journey.
Advocacy and Community Partnerships — collaborative initiatives that promote empathy-centered policies, strengthen community support networks, increase awareness of caregiver needs, and improve outcomes for older adults and those who care for them.
Our Commitment
We recognize that compassionate care extends beyond families.
Healthcare professionals, hospital teams, nursing home staff, home care providers, and community organizations often work under extraordinary pressure while striving to deliver exceptional care. Compassion by Design is committed to supporting these professionals through education, collaboration, recognition, and partnerships that strengthen workplace culture and promote person-centered care.
Together, we are designing a future where every older adult is treated with dignity, every caregiver feels valued and supported, every healthcare professional is empowered to provide compassionate care, and every community recognizes that caring for one another is a shared responsibility.
Designing Care with Heart. Creating Change with Purpose.
We also recognize the systemic pressures facing hospital and nursing home staff, many of whom are overworked and under-supported. Through partnerships and advocacy, we aim to foster more compassionate workplace cultures, improve patient outcomes, and promote a standard of care that honors the dignity and well-being of our aging population.
